Online Voter Registration Available and Very Popular

(Carson City, NV; September 20, 2012) - Secretary of State Ross Miller's online voter registration system is experiencing a significant upswing in the number of users since the launch of a statewide voter registration education campaign last week.

• The Elections Division witnessed a 467-percent increase in the average number of residents accessing www.RegisterToVoteNV.gov during September 10-19, compared to the period of June 12 (the Primary Election) to September 10.
• Between September 10 (the launch of the voter registration education and outreach campaign) and September 19, a total of 6,769 users, or an average of just over 752 users per day, accessed the system to update their address or party affiliation, or to register to vote in the upcoming election.
• A total of 11,937 users, or an average of 133 users per day, accessed the system from June 12 to September 10.

"This is the impact my office hoped for when we launched the statewide online voter registration education campaign," said Miller. "Our media campaign has obviously encouraged residents to take that first step toward participating in elections. I am hopeful that many more Nevadans will take advantage of this opportunity to register." 

The multi-media campaign, launched last week and funded by the Help America Vote Act, includes video presentations and outdoor and online media. Video presentations, airing on televisions stations statewide and available on YouTube and Facebook, remind Nevadans there is still time to register to vote online.
Since online registration began in Clark County, Nevada on August 31, 2010, more than 27,000 residents have used the system, of which more than 18,000 are new registrations. Online voter registration expanded to all Nevada counties in 2012.

To utilize the online system, citizens need to be at least 18 years old and have a Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driver's license or DMV-issued identification card. The application process pulls the signature on file with the DMV and applies it to the voter's registration record, which will then be used for identification for all future elections. Online voter registration is also available on Facebook at apps.facebook.com/nvsosnova. 

Registered voters can access their voting information at nvsos.gov/votersearch by entering their first and last names, date of birth, and driver's license number or social security number. From there, they can update their address or change their party affiliation without completing a paper application and submitting it to the County Clerk or Registrar of Voters office. 

Residents have until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 to register by mail or online to vote in the November 6 general election.
